Safer everyday driving: steering, gears and traffic stops

Smooth inputs and a clear view around the vehicle matter more than complicated tricks. Use the vehicle manual for model-specific transmission instructions.

Keep both hands ready

Use a comfortable position that gives good control without locking your elbows. Avoid gripping the inside of the wheel or crossing arms more than needed during normal turns.

Look where the car needs to go

Scan well ahead and check mirrors regularly. Extra space gives you time to brake smoothly, avoid road debris and react to traffic changes.

Use Park, Neutral and Drive correctly

Select Park when leaving the vehicle and apply the parking brake. At short traffic stops, follow the vehicle manual and keep full control with the brake. Do not experiment with shifting while moving.

Respond early to unusual behaviour

New vibration, pulling, warning lights or delayed gear engagement deserve attention. An early check is easier than dealing with a breakdown in traffic.

Prepare for rain and poor visibility

Slow down, increase following distance and use working lights and wipers. Avoid standing water when you cannot judge its depth or the road beneath it.
