Your safest action depends on the road, traffic and vehicle position. Protect people first. The car can be recovered once the area is under control.
If the vehicle can still move
Signal and move to a safer stopping place without making a sudden lane change. Switch on hazard lights and apply the parking brake after stopping.
On a high-speed road
Keep away from live lanes. Leave the vehicle only if you can reach a safer protected area. Never stand in front of or behind a stopped vehicle where another vehicle could strike it.
After a collision
Call emergency services when anyone is injured, traffic is blocked or there is immediate danger. Do not touch exposed wiring, leaking fluids or damaged high-voltage components.
While waiting for the truck
- Keep your phone available for the driver.
- Share a live location pin and nearest landmark.
- Tell dispatch if the situation changes.
- Do not attempt repairs in an unsafe traffic position.
